Summer Show August 2009
The North Wales Regional Group Show was a rather smaller affair than their bumper Spring event; the group is likely to drop the August show altogether and reconsider their events for 2010.
Penny Hollings rode each of the morning’s exhibits very nicely and offered plenty of tips and advice to her competitors. Ridden Champion was Ms J Brown's own and ridden by Rebecca Brown Maeander (Ish-Kay-Nay x Morag) who topped the Open purebred male class, and their Young Riders class.
Beverly Duncalf’s Precious Little Time took reserve after a win in the Open over 148cm partbreds, ahead of the Anglo mare Vlacq Sulime.
The Open classes were blessed with glorious sunshine and Mair Arnold seemed to thoroughly enjoy her stint judging the coloureds, amateurs and so forth.
The large partbred filly Vlacq Hectique won the Marlak Stud junior coloureds in a repeat of her win at the Spring Show (her only other outing to date). The senior coloured class was a clean sweep for the Helliwell’s of Burnt House Stud. Their five year old gelding BH Spirit Walker managed to beat his sire, A Chance of Fame, into second. These two horses blend Estopa Arabian lines with Saddlebred (USA National Show Horses) blood to produce very workmanlike and attractive horses.
Veteran winner was Carol Dean’s Tynddolisa Nijina who also won her open ridden and ridden veteran classes earlier in the day.
Winner of the Classic Head was Amy Southworth’s Makisa Lady Design with Nikki Lewis’ Rosina Bint Halima (also junior Egyptian winner) in second. These two went on to take the section championship in an all-girls affair with smiles all around in the sunshine.
The purebred classes were under the critical eye of Nick Arnold who also clearly liked Amy’s filly; she topped the 2 year old class and took the junior reserve title, just behind Antonia Mitchell’s yearling colt Khanberra.
Mrs Hill’s sweetly demure grey Kazlana won the mare class and the senior purebred championship to add to their Amateur win earlier in the day.
Nick’s reserve champion was the strong 6 year old gelding HT Navarro (Thee Equalizer / Imperial Nasreena) shown by Becky Georgeson for owner Paula Collins. He is set to step into the novice riddens next season so perhaps he will make an appearance at the Spring show.
On to the partbreds, where a few more ponies came forward than during the rest of the day. The stallion winner was Kalusta stud’s riding pony Glansoden Golden Temptation making an appearance after a busy covering season.
Melissa Kelsey Jones showed the 2 year old Woodview Balenciago to a win, and her own yearling Melvale Solar Flare to a second in the yearlings.
The championship of the partbred section was a triumph for the coloured horses.
The Helliwell’s gelding BH Spirit Walker took the champion award, ahead of the yearling winner Vlacq Hectique, who once again prompted lots of interest. While the campion may be 4 years older, the yearling matches him for size! Sandra of Burnt House remarked that this was their only show outing this year as they have always enjoyed the friendly feel to the show and calm venue. The added coloured classes meant they could show in two sections, which is a real bonus for them.
The North Wales Arab Group Commitee would like to thank all of those who supported our Summer show and e4equine for the pictures used in this report.
SPRING SHOW APRIL 2009 RESULTS
Results from the 2009 Spring Show: many congratulations to our winners and lovely to see so many members in the ribbons once again.
A bumper show with a big increase in entries and super quality as always - as a result, we do plan to split the riddens by sex, and also to tweak the timings to make use of both arenas at the Aug show and avoid such late running and parking issues.
Our thanks must go once again to our small but dedicated team of helpers, our judges and stewards, and sponsors (without whom the additional classes could not run).
Aug show schedule will be available shortly – Black Bridge Arabians have kindly sponsored a Classic Head Class, and a new award for junior purebred champion has been pledged. We would love to run the showcase classes again but we do need sponsors – if you think you can help, please contact a member of the team to discuss options. We would also love to recognise the Anglos competing; any suggestions welcomed!
